Hurricane Irene remains a category 2 hurricane with 105mph winds. It continues on a northerly track but
will turn a bit more to the north-northeast tomorrow and then more northeasterly by Sunday and early next
week. Landfall is expected near Cape Hatteras, North Carolina tomorrow with second landfall in the New
York City area Sunday as a weak category 2 or category 1 (95-100mph) hurricane. Widespread problems
are expected from higher tides, storm surge, heavy rainfalls, flooding, winds and power failures.
Depression 10 is located about 670 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands and is moving to the northwest.
This system is slowly weakening and could dissipate over the next few days.
